Step 1: Set up Splunk

If you have Splunk in your environment already, that’s fantastic and you should skip to the next section about creating a new index and installing the Sideview apps..

Otherwise proceed:

Install a trial of Splunk

Go to https://​splunk​.com and create a new account or log in with an existing account.

• 60-day trial with one Splunk ​“Server” installed locally
  • Go to https://​www​.splunk​.com/​e​n​_​u​s​/​d​o​w​n​l​o​a​d​.html and follow the option to download the 60-day trial of Splunk Enterprise.
  • Then follow the steps specific to your platform:

  • NOTE: Do not try to ingest the CDR data at installation time! We’ll do that later, and doing it now will not work.
• 60-day trial with multiple Splunk instances, installed locally
  • If CUCM is all you need, this is probably overkill, but not always. Contact Us if you think this might be the road for you.
• 14-day trial of Splunk Cloud
  • This definitely can cost more but it is a good option if you don’t want to run any onprem infrastructure, and if you want to send in many different kinds of data to be analyzed, beyond your CUCM data.

  • Follow the directions and emails to get it going.
  • If you want to test for longer than 14 days, it’s possible. However, we recommend talking to your Splunk rep before starting this trial.

Great. At this point, you should have a Splunk instance you can log into. 

Next, we’ll create the index and install the Sideview apps.
