There are a variety of tips and tricks and ​“things you should know” about not only the Cisco CDR Reporting and Analytics app, but also about Splunk in general as it relates to the CDR app.

One quick note about Splunk – One customer might get tremendous value out of it indexing just a few Megabytes per day, and the next customer might be indexing above 100 Terabytes per day. That is a range of use cases whose scale spans eight orders of magnitude.

This is highly unusual even in the software world, and it has some strange effects on things like the documentation.

When you read the Splunk documentation, just remember:

• UCM CDR is tiny in Splunk terms, so the indexing load our app will generate will be tiny in Splunk terms.
• On the other hand, running searches and reports will use a significant amount of hardware resources, so do not skimp on disk speed, RAM, and CPUs.
